This portrait is the origin of the exhibition’s title. It began with a single figure extracted from a larger family photograph — a young man whose name and story have been lost. Only fragments of him survived: the faint outline of his tie, the posture of his shoulders, a trace of presence.

The work preserves the untouched greys of the original photograph, colouring only the elements that resisted disappearance. Above him, a violet bloom of emulsion decay has been magnified, not concealed. It becomes a quiet symbol of time’s imprint — a reminder that erasure and survival coexist.

From this nearly vanished life, a new image was formed.
From what remained, art emerged.
