Άντης Χατζηαδάμος

The reason I returned to Cyprus in 2006 was to organize a retrospective exhibition of my father Andy Adamos or Andy Hadjiadamos (1936-1990).

In 2010 I managed to select most of his artwork from different organizations and collectors and organized his exhibition in Nicosia. The exhibition was held in association with the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture.

This catalog/book was a product of this effort. It combines, not all, but most, of Andy Adamos, work that he had created in his short life. I have also included many personal photographs [in order] to show his character too.

Paphos Harbour 1974

Ο βομβαρδισμός του Λιμανιού της Κάτω Πάφου το 1974

This part of Paphos's history was not taught at schools during any History class. When I first discovered these pictures in Athens, I was surprised. I grew up in this harbour and never heard of this story.

I managed to find more pictures from the same source and secured the copyright to publish them. It combines 35 original pictures of that day and the story of the events that occurred.

The book was presented in combination with a physical exhibition of the pictures.

Risky Travels PAFOS2017

Επικύνδινα Ταξίδια ΠΑΦΟΣ2017

In 2017, my town Paphos was awarded to held the European Capital of Culture 2017. I had taken part in all the efforts for the nomination process, and one of my suggestions was to honor a Turkish/Cypriot artist that had saved my father’s (Andy Adamos 1936-1990) work from the closed city of Ammochostos in 1976.

Risky Travels was the title given to the exhibition.

As the curator of the whole project, I managed to publish in detail the whole story of that event into a book/catalog.

Cyprus has been divided by the Turkish army since 1974. This is a story of a young artist that saved and protected the works of another fellow artist under extreme conditions.

PAFOS2017, European Capital of Culture, was the perfect event to expose this story and the artworks of both artists together in a combined exhibition.
