Archive-Based Contemporary Artist Working with Deteriorated Century-Old Glass Negatives

Fused Glass Negatives Plates as discovered in 2006

Sergis Adamos transforms a single privately held archive of deteriorated early 20th-century photographic glass negatives into contemporary works across digital, print, and painted form.

Rooted in a single privately held archive, his practice works through damage, erosion, and chemical decay rather than against them. Instead of restoring the original images, he allows their instability and visual loss to become active elements in the creation of new contemporary works.

Exhibitions
Exhibiting since 2003, Sergis Adamos has developed a contemporary practice that has evolved from earlier presentations to recent solo exhibitions, including Whatever Remains, Turn It Into Art, and the Metamorphosis series (Metamorphosis 1 and Metamorphosis 2). His work was also recognized at the 2018 Biennale, where it received an award, reinforcing its position within contemporary image-based practice.

A curated commercial image archive drawn from the same source material is currently in development.
