Larnaca Biennale 2018 — Prize of Excellence
In 2018, Sergis Adamos reached a turning point in his work with damaged and deteriorated early twentieth-century glass negatives. After years of experimentation with the archive, he began presenting the fused plates not only as historical material but as the basis for large-scale contemporary artworks.
For Larnaca Biennale 2018, he created the triptych Paphos Souls, developed from two attached and deteriorated glass negatives. Each panel was enlarged to 150 × 100 cm, allowing the damaged surfaces, fused figures, and traces of photographic decay to become central elements of the composition.
The work was selected for presentation at the Larnaca Biennale 2018 and received the Prize of Excellence. This recognition marked an important early moment in the development of the Metamorphosis project and confirmed the artistic potential of transforming damaged archival material into contemporary art.
