Metamorphosis 1/1 Works

Metamorphosis 1/1 Works is a collection of individual images developed from details, fragments, and damaged surfaces found within the glass negative archive. Each work begins with high-resolution scanning and close examination of deteriorated photographic material, where small areas of erosion, fusion, gesture, or surface damage are isolated and transformed into contemporary compositions.

The collection reflects a central principle of the Metamorphosis project: the archive is not restored to its original state, but reactivated through damage, concealment, colour, and transformation. These works move between digital image-making, giclée printing, large-format editions, and selected canvas works with acrylic intervention.

Metamorphosis 1/1 - 2022

Hand of Friendship. 2022.

3834x5907 Pixels

Hand of Friendship, 2022, is one of the early digital works developed within the Metamorphosis 1/1 phase. Created from a deteriorated early twentieth-century glass negative, the image isolates a gesture from the archive and transforms it into a contemporary digital composition.

The work was first presented in print at Metamorphosis 2, held in 2022 at the Cyprus House of Culture, Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Athens, Greece. It was also minted and sold on Foundation during the project’s early NFT phase, marking an important moment in the digital development of the archive.
